Welcome to The Battery Gun
Company, manufacturer of full size Gatling Guns as
you'll see in the pictures on this site.
The Gatling gun, also known as the battery gun, is a black powder gun
that consists of multiple barrels revolving around a central axis and
is capable of being fired at a rapid rate. These guns were patented by
Richard Gatling, and they were first used by General Benjamin F. Butler
of the Union army at the historic Civil War siege of Petersburg,
Virginia, in 1864-1865.
As you turn the Gatling Gun’s crank, the barrels, chamber pick-up
wheel, and the firing pin block, all turn in unison. Each barrel of the
gun has its own firing pin mechanism. Two cams react at the same time
by pulling the firing pin back and pushing the bolt forward to lock the
chamber in place.
At the appropriate
moment, the outer cam releases a firing pin and the chamber fires. As
the entire Gatling Gun mechanism continues to rotate, the bolt and
firing pin
mechanism moves backward releasing the clamp on the chamber. The
chamber then falls out the bottom. Of course chambers of the Gatling
gun are reloaded
hundreds, if not thousands of times.
